INTRODUCTION
In many developing countries women are viewed as second class citizens. Even
though women have heavier workloads as caretakers at home, they have very
little influence in their house and communities. This unbalanced societal power
often leads to fewer opportunities for women education and work and also can
lead to domestic abuse. This gender sensitive management training course is
designed to open up communications between sexes to bring mutual understanding
and respect of others roles.
The
program starts by employing local experts on gender issues who clearly
understands the problem within the current social and cultural contexts to help
create and lead training sessions. This sessions facilitates discussions that
highlight positive practices between men and women, and expose areas that need
improved understanding. Starting in two groups and later coming into one
discussion, both genders discuss various roles, expectations and importance of
both genders.
Participants also have the chance to share experiences when they have felt empowered or dis-powered, and how those experiences relate to their own personal roles within their households and society. Finally, brainstorming sessions are led to consider what changes could be made to foster an environment of respect, dignity and understanding for both genders.
