INTRODUCTION

Data collection has always been an integral part of development work. In the past, this task was performed with paper and pen, which made it prone to error, difficult to conduct on a large scale, and high in transaction costs.

ICT tools such as mobile devices and software that allows users to create surveys, collect, manage and upload data to storage facilities in real-time, have reduced the conventional challenges associated with remote data collection.

Module I

Mobile Data Collection Using ODK

·       Digitizing questionnaires for ODK using xlsforms.

·       ODK aggregate server in the cloud set up

·       ODK Collect for Mobile data collection set up

·       Calibration of mobile device for data collection.

·       Hosting platform quota management.

·       Visualization and analysis of data on ODK Aggregate.

·       Downloading/extracting data from ODK Aggregate for analysis.

Module II

Mobile Data Collection Using KoBoToolbox

·       Using web-based interface to digitize questionnaires

·       KoBo Toolbox for hosting data

·       Mobile data collection using KoBo Collect set up

·       Calibration of mobile device for data collection.

·       Data Visualization and analysis using KoBoToolbox.

·       Downloading/extracting data for analysis.

Module III

Mobile Data Collection, Messaging and Visualization on any device using Magpi

·       How to digitize questionnaires using an easy web-based interface.

·       Interactive SMS – How to collect feedback by administer complex questionnaires via a back-and-forth SMS

·       Structured SMS – How to collect simple data that fits into a single SMS message of 160 characters.

·       Interactive voice response – How to deploy forms as interactive voice phone call.

·       Deploying and hosting survey data.

·       Downloading/extracting data for analysis.

Module IV

Mapping

·       Introducing GIS

·       Introducing QGIS

·       Producing professional maps using data collected

Module V

·       Presentation and review of participants course projects with the instructors.

·       Action plan

·       Closure

·       This course is delivered by our seasoned trainers who have vast experience as expert professionals in the respective fields of practice. The course is taught through a mix of practical activities, theory, group works and case studies.

·       Training manuals and additional reference materials are provided to the participants.
