Monitoring And Evaluation For Sustainable Development Goals (sdgs) Training Course

Introduction

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plays a crucial role in tracking progress, assessing impact, and ensuring accountability for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs, adopted by the United Nations, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. Effective M&E systems are essential for monitoring the implementation of SDG-related programs, understanding the outcomes and impacts of interventions, and making data-driven decisions that accelerate progress towards these global goals.

The Monitoring and Evaluation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Training Course is designed to provide M&E professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to monitor and evaluate programs and projects in line with the SDGs. Participants will learn how to design and implement M&E systems that capture relevant data, measure progress, and support the achievement of SDG targets. The course focuses on aligning M&E practices with the SDGs, ensuring that interventions contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the SDGs and their relevance to M&E: Gain a deep understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, their targets, indicators, and the critical role of M&E in achieving these goals.
  • Design M&E Systems Aligned with the SDGs: Learn how to develop M&E frameworks and systems that align with SDG targets and indicators, ensuring that programs contribute effectively to sustainable development.
  • Select and Apply Relevant Indicators: Understand how to select and design indicators that measure progress toward SDG targets, including understanding the global SDG indicators and adapting them for local contexts.
  • Use Data for SDG Monitoring and Reporting: Master the techniques for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to track progress on SDGs, including the use of disaggregated data for inclusive monitoring.
  • Measure and Report Impact on the SDGs: Learn how to assess the impact of programs and projects on SDG outcomes, using appropriate methodologies to evaluate long-term sustainability and effectiveness.
  • Ensure Accountability and Transparency in SDG Monitoring: Understand how to use M&E data to ensure accountability and transparency in the implementation of SDG-related programs, promoting stakeholder engagement and public participation.
  • Integrate SDG M&E into Organizational Systems: Develop skills to integrate SDG-focused M&E systems into organizational processes and frameworks, including using digital tools and platforms for efficient data collection and reporting.
  • Apply Adaptive Management Practices: Learn how to use M&E findings for adaptive management, ensuring that programs are adjusted and improved over time to achieve SDG targets.
  • Engage Stakeholders in SDG Monitoring: Understand how to involve various stakeholders in the M&E process, including communities, local governments, and international bodies, to enhance ownership and sustainability of SDG programs.
  • Report on SDG Progress: Develop the skills to prepare high-quality reports on SDG progress for government bodies, donors, and the public, including the use of SDG-specific reporting frameworks.

This course will provide participants with the tools and insights needed to create effective M&E systems that not only track progress toward the SDGs but also contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and impactful development outcomes.
