  • The importance of financial risk management: Protecting value, ensuring stability, and meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Risk management frameworks: COSO, ISO 31000, and other best practices. Risk appetite and tolerance.
  • Course overview: Structure, learning objectives, software tools (if applicable), and assessment methods.

Module 2: Market Risk I: Measurement and Modeling

  • Market risk: The risk of losses arising from changes in market prices (interest rates, exchange rates, equity prices, commodity prices).
  • Measuring market risk: Volatility, standard deviation, beta, and other statistical measures.
  • Value-at-Risk (VaR): Historical simulation, Monte Carlo simulation, and parametric approaches.
  • Backtesting and stress testing VaR models.

Module 3: Market Risk II: Advanced Techniques and Hedging

  • Expected Shortfall (ES): A coherent risk measure and its advantages over VaR.
