The Last-mile Network: Rural Microfinance Infrastructure Models Training Course in Cuba

Delivering financial services to remote and rural areas presents a significant logistical and operational challenge. Traditional brick-and-mortar branches are often not a viable option due to high costs and a lack of population density. This disconnect leaves millions of people in agricultural communities excluded from the formal financial system, limiting their ability to invest in their livelihoods and build resilience against economic shocks. Rural microfinance infrastructure models offer innovative solutions that leverage technology, community networks, and partnerships to create a distributed and accessible financial ecosystem. These models move beyond the traditional branch-centric approach, bringing financial services directly to where people live and work.

This course is designed to equip microfinance and development professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to design and implement effective rural infrastructure models. You will explore a variety of solutions, from agent banking networks and community-based groups to mobile vans and digital platforms, and learn how to select the right model for your specific context. By mastering the strategic and operational aspects of rural infrastructure, you will be prepared to bridge the last-mile gap, reduce operational costs, and accelerate financial inclusion in even the most remote and underserved regions.
