Proactive Peacebuilding: Gender-sensitive Conflict Early Warning Systems Training Course in Comoros

Introduction

Conflict and instability disproportionately impact different genders, yet traditional conflict early warning systems (CEWS) often overlook or misinterpret the critical signals related to gender dynamics. Women, girls, men, and gender-diverse individuals experience, perceive, and respond to conflict differently, possessing unique vulnerabilities and capacities that are vital for comprehensive risk analysis. Failing to integrate a gender lens into early warning mechanisms means missing crucial indicators of escalating violence, perpetuating gender-based violence, and excluding key actors in peacebuilding efforts. By systematically collecting and analyzing sex- and age-disaggregated data, understanding gender-specific grievances, and empowering diverse voices, CEWS can provide more accurate, nuanced, and actionable intelligence, leading to more effective and equitable conflict prevention and response. This essential training course focuses on Gender-Sensitive Conflict Early Warning Systems, equipping participants to build inclusive and effective mechanisms for peace.

This intensive training course is meticulously designed to equip peacebuilders, conflict analysts, humanitarian actors, policymakers, and civil society organizations with the theoretical understanding and practical tools necessary to develop and implement Gender-Sensitive Conflict Early Warning Systems. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the gendered drivers and indicators of conflict, learn how to conduct gender-sensitive conflict analysis, and explore strategies for integrating gender into data collection, analysis, and reporting for early warning. The course will delve into topics such as gender-based violence as an early warning indicator, women's roles in peace and security, inclusive data collection methodologies, and linking early warning to early action with a gender lens. By mastering the principles and methodologies of Gender-Sensitive Conflict Early Warning Systems, participants will be empowered to contribute to more proactive, comprehensive, and equitable conflict prevention and peacebuilding initiatives.
