Promoting Well-being: Gender And Health Equity Training Course in Comoros

Introduction

Health is a fundamental human right, yet achieving true health equity remains elusive without explicitly addressing the profound influence of gender. Across the globe, health outcomes are significantly shaped by gender norms, roles, and power dynamics, leading to differential access to healthcare services, varying disease burdens, and distinct health-seeking behaviors for women, men, and gender-diverse individuals. Beyond biological differences, social constructs of gender dictate who receives care, what types of services are available, and how health systems respond to diverse needs. Failing to integrate a gender lens into health policy and programming can perpetuate disparities, undermine public health efforts, and leave the most vulnerable populations behind. This essential training course focuses on Gender and Health Equity, equipping participants to design and implement health interventions that are truly inclusive and transformative.

This intensive training course is meticulously designed to equip public health professionals, healthcare providers, policymakers, development practitioners, and civil society actors with the theoretical understanding and practical tools necessary to integrate a gender perspective into health policy and programming. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the socio-cultural, economic, and political determinants of health from a gender lens, learn to conduct gender-sensitive health assessments, and explore strategies for designing and implementing equitable health interventions. The course will delve into topics such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) in healthcare settings, gender-responsive health systems, mental health and gender, and the impact of intersecting identities on health outcomes. By mastering the principles and methodologies of Gender and Health Equity, participants will be empowered to contribute to health systems that are more responsive, equitable, and capable of improving the well-being of all individuals.
